The PDSTdivegroup was formed in 2005, and have a successful relationship with the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, one of Wales’ leading Heritage Organisations. The Divegroup is based at the Heritage Centre, Pembroke Dock and is the sole Diving Unit for the Sunderland T9044 wreck at Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, which is a protected site. Mooring, fishing and diving are prohibited within a 100 metre radius.

Currently crewed by fourteen experienced local divers, which includes BSAC, SAA and PADI instructors. The Divegroup provides many services to the Sunderland Trust and other organisations, these services include: diver-003

  • Safety boat duty for local ‘on the water’ events
  • Monitoring of the remains of T9044
  • Underwater excavation
  • Raising of artefacts
  • Search and recovery
  • Underwater photography and video
  • Underwater survey and inspections

In addition, the PDSTdivegroup advises on post-recovery options and effectively integrates, performs and supports the requirements of archaeological and heritage underwater investigations. Assisting organisations such as the BBC, Channel Four, Wessex Archaeology, 360 and others.

Many of our team members have worked and dived around the globe, acquiring an extensive range of skills, including:diver-002

  • Maritime Archaeology
  • Search and Rescue/Recovery
  • Underwater Survey and Cartography
  • SCUBA diving instructors

All our crew members are qualified boat handlers and radio operators, first aid certified, Oxygen administrators and trained in the use of underwater communications and full face diving equipment. In addition, each member is required to hold a Sea Survival Certification.

As a group, we understand that the physics and practicalities of diving are the same no matter which training organisation a diver has qualified with. Above all, we embrace common sense. Our team are all knowledgeable and approachable, willing to offer advice on any aspect of diving on such a challenging project as T9044.
