Celtic Longboats Race - August 2015

Sunday August 9th was a dull and damp affair. It was also the day of the annual Celtic Longboats Race. Hosted by Llanion Warriors Celtic Rowing Club. Despite the unwelcoming weather. The waterside at East Llanion was crammed with onlookers, who were treated to a great days entertainment.

Alongside a number of other volunteer RIB's 'Guardian' patrolled the race area east of the Cleddau Bridge.

Celtic Longboats are based on a traditional design, but constructed using GRP for durability and strength. Each has four people rowing, plus the Cox, and can zip along at seven knots, when racing, with a cruising speed of about 5 knots.

Military Charity Swim - August 2015

Former Welsh soldier and artist Barry John, organised a charity swim in aid of veterans. The swim would be just over a kilometre, from Neyland Yacht Club Pontoon to Llanstadwell. It was an early start, which meant a much earlier start for 'Guardian's' crewnext. Happily it was a beautiful summer morning and the water was flat calm. Before we knew it, the swimmers were in and we were off.

The event went off without a hitch, and we would like to offer all the participants our heartfelt congratulations.
